Permaculture Manchester . . . lets put some green on the urban scene

Ladies and gents, for your pleasure, Julie Spellman’s eagerly awaited film about the Birchfield’s Park Forest Garden Summer Solstice event, which took place on June 21st.

The event was organised by Adele Myers, with support from Jane Morris, on behalf of Manchester Permaculture Network. With zero pounds in her budget, Adele did an amazing job, pulling in community herbalists, artists, and practitioners, to deliver a community event that was at once inspiring, informative, and practical.

During the day, Adele ran her herb drawing workshop, which has been successfully delivered in various locations around the country. In addition, other herbalists provided knowledge about medicinal and cosmetic properties of the herbs that can be found growing in the forest garden, and surrounding park.

On top of this practical gardening activities were organised within the forest garden itself, whilst Craig Winterburn provided a yurt and drumming workshop, and the Levenshulme Bicycle Orchestra entertained us all with fine guitar music. All in all a great day, and many thanks go out to everyone else that contributed to its success.

Myself and Julie Spellman were there as community reporters for the People’s Voice Media. In actual fact, Julie was the brains behind the operation - I arrived with a slight hangover, having been at Drumroots until late the previous night, and walked around with a roving microphone interviewing people. In the mean time, Julie undertook some excellent camera work, and since then has worked her magick to produce this beautiful 9 minute film. Thanks so much Julie for all your work making this happen .. the People’s Voice Media must surely be very proud of you.
